Yesterday I was struggling to find a way to enable ladder-only runewords on single player with the newer versions. Because my system does not cooperate with older versions of D2, I was especially motivated to get it working for 1.14. After some tinkering the following method worked for me:. In BOTH your DiabloII folder under (default) Program Files AND the DiabloII folder in the C: Users Saved Games DiabloII create the following path by creating the following folders. DiabloII Data Global Excel. In the Excel folder save the following txt file: (you can paste or download) as Runes.txt. To recap, both DiabloII directories should contain the paths.DiabloII Data Global Excel Runes.txt.
Modify the shortcut path for your Diablo2 program by adding -direct and -txt to the end of the path (after the closed quotation marks). For example, my path looks like this: 'C: Program Files (x86) Diablo II Diablo II.exe' -direct -txt This should do it. I hope this helped some people out. Tom and jerry free online. Also as a sidenote, I had issues with Windows 10 not allowing me to modify/save/create files under my User directory. To fix this I had to change the 'ownership' of the User directory by following these directions:. After this I had to add a usergroup to the list of permissions on the parent User directory by typing in my User name in the prompt field.
Diablo 2 Runewords Single Player
After editing the permissions on this newly created User account to have full control I was able to save the txt file in the Excel directory in the Saved Games DiabloII path. I've tried for days to get this to work. I have tried every way I could possibly find to get this to work, and it just doesn't. I've tried creating all these files in multiple locations, doesn't work. I've tried downloading runeword mod and that didn't work.
This is really starting to bother me as it is killing my drive to continue on single player. Please any advice or step by step instructions would be much appreciated. I am on Windows 10 for the record, and I have also tried taking ownership of my files and still nothing is working. You know what would be ALOT better and easier? If activision/blizzard just made all runewords available on single player! They (with the recent patch) admitted that people still play this game (otherwise why release a patch for a dead game?) so why shouldn't 'Single Players' be allowed 'ladder only' runewords? Basically the only ones that ppl will want are spirit and insight and a few more, but not many.Edge/Faith/Infinity/Fort/LastWish mainly.

OP not saying your method is hard or anything but why hasn't blizzard done that sooner? It would have made the customer's happier and what business does NOT like happy customer's? EDIT forgot Grief and Phoenix.
Rune Words By inserting the correct Runes in the correct order into a specific type of item with the correct number of sockets, it is possible to create a Rune Word Item. As of the 1.09 patch, Blizzard has said that Rune Words will work both on and off realms, in single or multiplayer games. Rune Word items can be personalized using the 'Rescue Anya Quest' reward in Act 5. You will still receive all of the magical bonuses that were already on each Rune used. Each Rune Word has a character level requirement, so make sure your character is at the required level, before you create a Rune Word item and then discover that you can't use it.
Be careful when using Rune Words formula with Maces. Not all Mace-class weapons can be used. Only Maces, Morning Stars, Flails, and their exceptional and elite versions can be used in Rune Word formulae. Be careful when using Rune Words formula with the runes Io and Lo.make sure you use the right rune. BTW, Rune Words will not work with Wirts Leg.
Some 1.10 Rune Words allow players to use skills from another class. Rune Word recipes for the v1.09 patch.
